Markie Nicens, LMSW

I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) who supports clients experiencing a variety of clinical challenges, such as depression, anxiety, social anxiety, PTSD, and ADHD. I specialize in working with teens and young adults (ages 13-30), and enjoy working with clients during these formative years of their lives, when they may be questioning their sense of self or place in the world, changing relationship and friendship dynamics, and managing increasing independence and autonomy.

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Strengths-Based Perspective, and Expressive arts in my practice, and I am an Internal Family Systems-Informed therapist.

I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and have over three years of clinical experience working with clients with a history of trauma. I utilize the TF-CBT model to assist clients with processing past trauma, increasing knowledge of impacts of trauma, and deconstructing negative thoughts and core beliefs. Diving into past trauma can seem scary, so I do my best to create a safe, person-centered environment to assist clients on their journey to healing.

In my free time, I enjoy gardening, biking, reading, and exploring Atlanta hidden gems. I was born and raised in North Carolina, and have an endless appreciation for the beauty, culture, and uniqueness of the Southeast.
