kate elkins, Master’s Level intern
she / her
I am a counseling intern currently completing my Master's degree in the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Mercer University. Before returning to school, I spent years working closely with families as both a preschool teacher and nanny, often using play-based and mindfulness approaches to support children and parents in their growth, curiosity, and emotional development.
I approach therapy through a systemic lens, considering how family dynamics, cultural expectations, and the stressors of modern life shape each family member’s development. I believe people are inherently creative in the ways they move toward growth and self-actualization, even in the face of difficult or limiting circumstances. My role is to support that process with compassion, curiosity, and trust in each individual’s inner wisdom.
With a background in theater and improvisation, I bring a playful and flexible energy to the therapy space. Drawing on my training as a 200-hour registered yoga teacher, I also incorporate body-based practices and an awareness of nervous system regulation to help clients reconnect with safety, presence, and self-compassion. I strive to create a non-judgmental, supportive environment where we can work collaboratively to navigate challenges and foster meaningful change.
Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy swimming, spending time in nature, and playing board games with my husband and friends.
